Well only a few days ago I was posting about my lovely old lady rat Disney
and her two new companions and how they had breathed life into her since the
death of her longtime cage mate. Well, sadly Disney suddenly became very
wobbly on her feet yesterday, she wouldn't eat and she felt very cold. Her
feet and tail were almost white. She became very listless and we were going
to take her to the vets today but when we awoke this morning she had died.
Her two new baby companions, Blossom and Snowflake seemed lost without her
as in the short time they had been together they'd adopted her as their
Mother. She was almost 2 years and 4 months old. I thought she may have had
a stroke. Does anyone have any ideas? I just hope she didn't suffer too
much.
Well, Snowflake and Blossom looked lost in the big cage that they shared so
we decided to go down to the garden centre and see if we could get a couple
of young female playmates for them. they had four. It was hard to make a
choice and you probably guessed we decided to get all four. So now we have
Holly, Phoebe, Crystal and Candy. They have settled in so well with
Snowflake and Blossom that anyone would think that they came from the same
litter.
Regards,
Rosalind
P S I'm catching you up Joanne! We have 11 now.

I am so sorry, just take heart that you gave her the
opportunity for a long happy life. What more could anyone
ask for?

If it was like my losing phil then I suspect she didn't
suffer more. Yes it does sound like she was having
micro-strokes that lead up to a fatal stroke.

Nice, the girls sound like they've settled in already.

Aww Rosalind, I am sorry to hear about Disney. I have followed your posts
about her adopting you new babies, and thought it was so lovely! She lived
to a good age for a ratty, I have only had 2 of my 9 that have departed only
just make it to 2 years old and sadly they died within a few days of that
milestone.

Congratulations on the new additions. I hope they bring lots of smiles at a
moment that is also very sad. I love the names and am pleased they have
settled in with Blossom and Snowflake so well! :o)

I'm so very sorry Rosalind, she certainly had the best mum taking care of
her, even giving her babies near her end. She must have been so happy...
It could have been a stroke, definitely or even pituitary tumor.
It's so funny how us rattie lovers automatically knew that when you wrote 4,
that they would all be coming home.
Welcome sweet Holly, Phoebe, Crystal and Candy, such sweet names for these
new girls.
Catching up to me? You have surpassed me now.. I'm down to 10. It's Kate you
need to catch up too...
Kate? is that 17 or 19 now? lol
There's nothing better than adopting babies to help ease your heart from
such pain with a loss so great.
Thinking of you and family...

Thanks  all for your condolences. We loved Disney very much. Snowflake and
Blossom seems to be very happy with their new cagemates and it will ease the
heartache of losing their adopted Mum.
Yes, Tarn, Disney didn't do too badly considering she was almost 2 years and
4 months old. Her cage mate Matilda who died a couple of weeks ago was 2
years and 10 months old. She was out on one of her runs and just layed down
and died ( the best way to go). She joined Disney and Star when her sisters
died. Poor Star was one of the unlucky ones living less than 18 months and
dying suddenly.
I have been doing a bit of research over the net and a stroke seems the most
likely cause of Disney's death.
I'll keep everyone posted about the new recruits.
Regards,
Rosalind
P S I never thought I would ever overtake you Joanne. I was content a few
years ago with just  a couple of rats. I blame my husband for buying huge
cages, 2 rats would be lost in them so I can't waste all that extra space
can I ?

Sorry to hear about Disney but what a good age and what a lovely mum you
sound, You are as silly as me with the, I am looking for 2 but bring home 4.
It's just those little faces saying take me home its very very hard to
resist as I only went for 3 rescue Agouti Dumbo's and came home with the 3
plus 2 others that needed me. Hope you have as much fun with your little
chaps as I do, you just cannot help smiling at them when they all rush to
the cage door to be the first one out!

So sorry for your loss, Rosalind.

It's good to hear you have new additions and that they've settled in so
well, hopefully they'll help you get through this sad time of losing sweet
little Disney.
