I thought of a good design for rattie pouches but I'm just no good with
sewing machines.
Instead, I bought the material (wooly on one side and fleecy on the other)
and my design to a seamstress and she put together the perfect rattie pouch.
I also had a matching 18"x18" blanket made. It's perfect for carrying sick
ratties with us all over the house and the long neck strap allows for the
pouch to be put on our side so our hands are free and the Velcro strap
around our waist makes it that much more secure. I had a green one made for
my mom, a violet one for my sister and a burgundy one for me. In all, each
pouch with blanket cost about $40 each set. It was one of the best Xmas
presents!!

Joanne, those are so cool!  They have all the best features that we
were talking about before that would be good for a rat pouch to have
(the waist strap, etc.).  Definitely best to design and commission
your own, eh?

And such a good idea for a sick rattie, too.  Some steam-room sessions
with hot showers in the bathroom and making sure that Momo stays good
and warm seem to be definite contributing factors in him continuing to
improve (along with adding liquid Baytril, which I actually *do* think
is more effective than the crushed-up tablets, to the azithromycin
regimen).  It's really amazing how well he's doing considering how
sick he was, even sicker than his brother at one point.

So here's to everybody and your ratties staying nice and warm.  :)

What an excellent idea, Joanne.  Maybe you could market the design!

It's a thought but it's already $40 just to get the darn things made.

I've also added pics of my rattie playground which I put together on
Christmas day for my rats. It was a huge hit!

Wow, no wonder it was a hit!  That looks great.  I'd love to have a spare
room where I could build a set-up like that and keep it set up so the
ratties could play there everyday.  Did you get the pipes from a DIY store
or similar?

Not familiar with DIY but if you mean like a hardware store, that's where I
got them.
BTW, I too would like a rattie room, currently, my rats and their playground
have taken over my dining room, much to my hubby's chagrin. lol

Cool Playground Joanne!  I see you got one of those Plastic interlocking
houses, you know what I'm talking about don't you?  I have been waiting for
them to come down in price a bit more before I buy one. I think they are
great!  I use some of those pvc tubes in my cages...but what a great Idea!
take care,
Sue

Yes pricey little buggers... I was lucky and found them on sale at
Petsmart... at least that's what my hubby thinks.

Your hardware stores are probably the equivalent of our DIY
('Do-It-Yourself') stores.  I'll have to check out the plumbing section next
time I'm in one!
