Since Jacques had his surgery away from home, the vet gave me the x-rays to
take to my regular vet.  I took some photos of them and put them up on
webshots.  It's fascinating to see inside a rattie!

I also put up some new pics of Jacques so you all know who I'm talking
about.  I decided not to put up the post-op photo I took last night because
it's pretty graphic.  When his hair grows back I'll take one that's not so
scary looking!

The one of Jacques enjoying his snack simply melts your heart... what a
darling.
Must write note to self: get big doll house for rat. ;)

If you ever want to compare pics, I've got tons of Sven with his mass and
after surgeries.
His cancer was called a fibrosarcoma, low grade and it's known as a
localized cancer so no spreading which is good news.

Joanne,

I would love to see some pics of Sven after surgery, and now.  I think I've
seen the worst of it in Jacques and I keep telling myself that he will look
much better once his hair grows back.  You can email them directly to me at
meghan112rats@ncia.net and just remove the rats.

I got the plastic "dream house" at a thrift store for $5.  Best investment
I've made in awhile!

Yay, more pics!

Isn't it amazing how fragile their little bones are?  I was sleeping
with Momo when he was at his sickest a while back and I forgot about
him and rolled over and almost squashed him with my hand.  It was just
so scary to realize how tiny his little ribcage is (at least my mommy
instinct kicked in immediately, so I didn't hurt him at all, not even
a squeak from him).

I've been wanting to get a plastic dollhouse or one of those Sesame
Street-type farms from a garage sale, but I've never gotten around to
it.  Seems like all of them love those.  :)

I bought a mounted rat skeleton via ebay a few years ago to help me
understand the bone structure of rats- and it's also an interesting thing in
its own right.  I believe it was made as some kind of vet teaching aid as it
has tiny little numbers on some of the bones.

Have a look if you're interested:

I was amazed it was posted from the US to the UK and only lost a couple of
rib bones in the journey!  It certainly makes me appreciate how fragile some
of their bones are.  Interesting to see the x-rays too - I see that Jacques
hasn't had his bits snipped!

A Happy New Year to you and yours!

Marian, I can't seem to get the webshots link to work.  It thinks I'm
supposed to be the owner.  Do you have the link to your main webshots page?
I'd love to see that skeleton.

I'd be interested in taking a look too and am being told I can't view as I'm
not the owner.

Oooh, I'd like to see too... but you need to post the link of the public
viewing site and not from your account.

Interesting to see the X-rays.  What a beautiful picture of Jacques eating!
