I got a new rat who is a year old, and he looks very happy, eats well, but he makes this sound like a tennis ball being hit, but very softer of course......... I've noticed many rats when they are chilling out and relaxing contentedly do a kind of hiccup chirrupy thing every few seconds - is this what you mean?
