I am possibly getting a breeding pair soon, and want to try and find out as
much as I can about them. The things I have found out so far seem to
contradict each other. One site has called them the giant mouse, another
talks about them being rats. I do know that they are sociable, and that the
female has up to 12 pairs of nipples. That's about it.

Thanks for the help.

I was reading up a bit about them. It says their behavior is very close to
the pet rat. They live in groups/packs. They are seldom aggresive and can be
introduced to each other with much more ease than rats or mice.
It says they are extemely social and should never live alone.
This species is called either a rat or mouse. But from looking at multiple
pictures, I find them to look more like a mouse.
They don't smell like mice. Their odor is not offensive.
They are great jumpers so when they are nervous which they are in the
beginning be very careful.
They are definitely nocturnal.
In general, these pets need a multilevel cage. They love to climb, run and
burrow. Tubes, branches and toilet paper will keep these little guys happy.
As for litter, whatever you use for rats will be suitable. Also, they
usually pic only one corner for their toilet needs.
They are omnivores.
For breeding, gestation is 3 weeks. They are known to have huge litters
anywhere from 12 to 22. They reproduce starting from 6 to 8 weeks. But best
to wait till the mom is 3 months old. She may eat her first litter because
the milk glands take a while to form.
They are a fairly easy pet to take care of, make sure of fresh water and
good food.

Hi Lynn "kitty" and Joanne,

thanks for the information, its really useful. I talked to the breeder
today, and I could be getting a pair in about 3 to 4 weeks. I have to go on
a 3 hour train journey to get them, and the person I'm getting them from has
about a 2 hour train journey, we are meeting in halfway. (if that makes
sense). I am getting quite excited about these little creatures, and as soon
as I get them, I'll post lots of pictures.

How did you hear about them?  It will be interesting to know how you get on
with them as pets.

Hi folks, well, here are some picture of my multis. I have a friend that has
collected them for me and keeping them for a couple of weeks, until she can
bring them to me. She lives 4 hours away, and its going to be quite a
journey to get them to me.

That's the URL to a thread on my group that has pictures of them. The first
lot of pictures are the pictures of the litter they came from. The last two
pictures are my little boys.

Oh Wow... they are very cute indeed.  they look a lot like a cross
between a rat and a mouse..?  either way they are soo cute..:)  Best of
luck with your wee ones when you get them.

Kind regards Kate

Awww, they look so cute!  The first pic reminded me of gerbils, but the rest
more like mice than rats.
