if you could all spare some good thoughts for quill i'd appreciate it.
she's in sad shape right now and i don't know what else to do for her
except keep trying and keep hoping.

monday morning she had slobber all over herself so i gave her a bath
and trimmed her teeth. she's had a huge scab on the side of her cheek
for awhile now, and it was coming off, so i pulled it. i thought it
was just a scab but her tooth that i thought had fallen out came with
it. surprise! it was so gross, i almost lost my breakfast, and i
generally have a strong stomach!

since then she's really gone downhill. i talked to the vet and started
her back on antibiotics (clavamox this time) and she's been on pain
meds. she's eating some babyfood and i've been syringe feeding her
ensure, but last night and this morning she's been very dehydrated and
needed subq fluids. she didn't even fight me this morning, that's how
bad she felt.

she looks a little better tonight but i'm really worried about her.
i've pulled a rat back from worse than this, but i'm afraid i'm not
going to get quill back.

some pictures- grossness warning!!

before, with the big scab

What a sweetie!! I'm definitely sending you and quill good healing vibes!!!
You're doing great with her. She may just need to get through this hump and
maybe just maybe she'll make it!!

Healing vibes for Quill on their way.  She's lucky to have someone that
loves her as much as you.  Don't give up, you're doing the best you can.

That was one hell of an abscess.  Poor little mite has been through it, but
is lucky to have you as a nurse.  I've had rats at death's door before and
with lots of tlc (and a little help from meds!) they have pulled through,
they can be resilient little critters at times.  Sending Quill lots of well
wishes and healing vibes.

Hello Tracey.

If she is weak and dehydrated, perhaps you could give her some
bioactive yoghurts to reflesh her intestinal flora?  Maybe it makes
her feel better.

Give Kvil a cuddle and I am wishing her all the best.

Oh, poor Quill.  I didn't have the strength to look at the pictures.  We've
had enough "damaged" rats around that I know what you are going through.
It's heart-wrenching,  All you can do is keep her comfortable and do your
best for her.

The poor baby-I think with the antibiotics and the pain meds and the tlc
you're giving, quill will pull through.  Just keep the sweet thing warm and
cuddled and nourished-you're doing good!
