Isn't "rooney" irish slang meaning "thief" after a gaelic term that means
"descendant of bastard gentry who used an inherited title or knighthood to
rob hard-working people." Nowadays its the Russian rooneys who dangle
about fifty shoddy inferior wristwatches on their jacket lining & stand at
the mouth of dark alleys to hiss at passersby: "psst, wanna buy a watch?"
