well I have a rental inspection coming up, and im just wondering what
peoples experience are with them.
As I have 2 rats in a nice big cage I keep in the computer room next to me,
of course I have 2 cats I have declared to the real-estate agent, but not
the rats.
Most reactions ive had from people arnt positive, but they dont have the
power to evict me.
I dare say ill try and hide the girls while its going on, just hope they
dont find them.

What kind of unit do you live in? If it's an apartment complex of some
sort, I would hide/remove the rats. Usually rodents are not allowed in
larger complexes due to possiblilty of escape. My daughter in Phoenix has
had to do this 3 times now since moving into her complex in November.
Read your lease, if pets are allowed only upon approval, I would remove the
rats until after the inspection. I'm a landlord, if a tenant of mine has
unapproved pets, my lease states they can be evicted. Be careful! It would
have been best to advise the landlord before you got them of course but now
better safe (if sneaky) than sorry.

Now if you were in Ontario Canada, no landlord can force you to get rid of
the rats unless they can prove them distructive.
I've heard of horror stories from others (outside Ontario) that did disclose
the rats at time of inspection and then were forced to get rid of them. I
think I wouldn't risk it and just hide them.

Do you have a friend or relative who you could take them to for the day of
the inspection?

Would it be possible to leave them with a neighbour for the day?

Do you have to be present for the inspection? Could you put the rats & cage
in the car & take them for a drive while the inspector does the inspection?

they inspected my place a few weeks ago, i got home at 9pm and i got the
notice that they'd do it the next morning! I called my friend who doesn't
leave far and he let me put the cage in his garage for the day, and i kept
the shavings in my trunk for that day. All went fine and the guy's wife is
now a big rat fan!
