Amazing how, when you've had a really harsh evening, just having your
ratties around can make you feel better.*
Been sat here for the last few hours with Smudge wandering around doing
rattie things while I try and get some 'inner balance'.
* that, various Slipknot / Fear Factory / Dimmu Borgir songs, and a pack
of Marlboro Lights and Marlboro Menthols (not smoked anywhere near the
rats, and I don't smoke regularly)

Eh. Sorry sam, guess that was a bit harsh of me to post that. *sigh*
My only advice is to give it a week or so. Time really is a great
healer, albeit slow and steady. I lost Louie a while back, and it hurt
like hell. I had the cage in my bedroom, and it was the hardest thing to
walk in there and not hear the scuffle of wood and paper shavings as he
ran over to sniff at me. It was days before I could clean out the cage
for storage. But time does help - and after a couple more weeks, I got
Smudge and Willow.

Sam, I think you need to get yourself some new rats. Maybe a local shelter
has a rat or two that needs you like you need them. You can never replace
your other rats, but there's nothing wrong with letting new creatures into
your heart.

I have two rather anti-social rats in my office at home. Roe and Stroke are
here to help them become more social with people. (I keep the cage door
open and they come and go as they please. They swing it shut when I'm not
invited.) But even though they don't sit in my lap, every morning I sit on
the floor outside their cage and drink my coffee while I wait for the shower
to become free. I make small talk to them and they stick their noses out.
It's my quiet time and a wonderful way to start the day.

Yes, animals provide so much comfort don't they. Their funny little antics
and loving ways never fail to raise a smile...
