Hello all,
I noticed yesterday morning that Phoenix was stretched out in front of
the big box that they are currently trashing as a house, (instead of an
igloo). A while later he was still there. I also found it strange that
I hadn't seen any of the other boys around. I opened the door and
climbed on a chair to see what was up. To my horror Phoenix had passed
away. It must have happened in the night. I checked on everyone else
and they were all huddled in the box looking back at me, but none would
come out while Phoenixses body was lying there. When sorted that out
and disinfected everything. Once that was done all the guys came
running out like nothing had happened. It was almost as if they were
scared of his body? Certainly a weird thing to encounter.
Phoenix is one of our gentle boys ... he always loved a scratch on the
top of his head..:) Strangely he was the second eldest but looked like
a youngster, he was in good condition and as far as we knew great
health. Phoenix was 29 months old..:) Bless you my wee man may you
know the "Peace Profound" and may you have a wonderful reunion with all
your buddies.
Our ranks are fast diminishing this year ... we are down to 18 now. I
have seen too many of my fuzzy butts make the transition now and I am
starting to feel a little gutted. I know you guys know what I mean ....
Regards Kate.

You have my deepest sympathy, Kate. Tis a shock to lose one of our babies
unexpectedly. A candle is lit for Phoenix' passing, and a prayer for your
comfort is offered.

Kate, how sad. And how interesting that the other rats were afraid of the
body. I also find it so strange how some rats have prolonged, difficult
illnesses and others just go suddenly. I guess each way is difficult in its
own respect. I'm sorry about your loss.
