Today I entered a picture of Jacques in the local photography contest. I am
proud to say that he won a 3rd place ribbon in his category (pets)!!! I
couldn't believe it, because I live in a rural area, and rats here are
"vermin" and nothing more. No one EVER thinks of them as pets and I have
encountered a lot of judgement when I mention I love rats. I do have to
admit that one of the judges "assumed" he was a hamster and I did not
correct him (shrug). I just wanted to give Jacques a chance and I knew if I
said "rat" he'd probably be disqualified.
We had a special celebration this afternoon with rat-size pieces of cake and
corn cobs for all. Yeah!!!! The winning photo can be seen here

Carrot".

Oh congRATS!!! I remember when you first mentioned about perhaps
submitting that picture and we were all telling you to do it.
How wonderful that he made it that far. That is such an adorable picture
for sure.

There's actually a genus of rodent called "agoutis" whose
scientific name is "dasyprocta", which literally means "fuzzy
butt" in Greek. (http://www.chaffeezoo.org/animals/agouti.html)
