There are two females that had babies, I have no idea what had what, because
all the babies were crèched. There's around 20 of them in total. Both
females feed the babies, and the males take food to them. Its the first time
today that I've managed to get to see them all without the females guarding
them.

Hi Joanne,

its not a big market, but I've already had a few people ask me for some,
when they are ready to leave. They used to be everywhere apparently, but a
while back they just stopped breeding. Nobody knew why. Then a some people
imported them from Europe, and thing started to take off again. They are
really cute. I'm having to learn almost from scratch, as their aren't that
many internet sites that deal with them, and what sites do, can't agree with
what information they give out. Its really interesting watching them.

Hehe, thought you might like to see this. I had to change the cage yesterday
as it was ponging a bit. Just before I did, the female decided to move all
the babies from the old nest, which was almost falling apart, to the Cyber
Ball. Fortunately I had taken it off the stand, and just left it in the
cage.

Wow, those critters really are cute.  The latest picture of the cyber ball
is brilliant - mum's face looks like a hamster's on that.

I have taken a few more pictures of them now they are getting older. They
have started to eat solids and are drinking from the water bowl, spending
less and less time with the mums.

She had another litter already? Is that ok for her to have back to back
litters? I know in rats this could be way too stressful on the mom.
They sure are cute though.

Yes, it is ok for her to have had a second litter. In the wild by now she
probably would have had her third. She would, if I hadn't now separated her
from her mate. have gone on to have litter after litter without stopping
until she couldn't have any more. They can have litters every three weeks
until they are around 14 months of age. I wont be breeding with her any
more, the same as the other two females that had their second litters.

I've added some more pictures of one of the babies, I'm trying to get them
tame, its taking time, but I'm getting there. If you look on page three of
the album you'll see them. (How many pictures can you have per album, I've
added more, with the little one stuck on my finger, its showing on the
webshots desktop thingy that you add you pictures with, but there's nothing
showing on the album online, can you let me know if its showing ? There
should be 50 something pictures in the Album)

OMG!! I love the pic of the little one on the end of your finger!!! Too
sweet...
If you are a paid subscriber to webshots, I think it's something like 50
or 60 per album.

I love the big multimammate piles, and the shots of them on your finger (are
they really so very tiny, or do you have Andre The Giant hands ;o)   )

hehe, no I have average sized hands. That little boy is barely 4 weeks old.
I'm trying to get them used to being handled, but its taking a lot longer
than I thought it might.  He will grow to the size of a small female rat.
They can reach about 5 to 6 inches in length. The males keep growing way
past 18 months of age, and live to about 2 to 2.5 years.

I didn't realise they grew that big, I thought they were a similar size to
mice.  They really are beautiful looking.  Are the ones you have known as
huskies, as they remind me of husky rats.  Do they come in as many different
colours and varieties as rats?

Hi Tracey,

the browney looking ones are called Black eyed Cinnamons, and the others are
called Agouti Brokens. I know there's a red eyed Cinnamon, an agouti, but
not sure of the other colours. There are about 8 colours. I've not seen any
other colours than the ones I have though.  I would like to get more
colours, its finding a breeder that has them though.
