I've inherited two male rats to save them from being put down. How do people
feel about giving them dog biscuits as part of thier diet. We currently give
dry rat mix plus fresh fruit or veg per day and they look really well

A rodent block especially formulated for rats is best when it comes to
complete nutrition.
Dog biscuit is much too high in protein and fat for our little guys.
BTW: congRATS on the new little guys!!!

Good for you for giving them a home..:)  That is wonderful.  As for the
dog biscuits .....  I have given my boys a "Tux" biscuit to gnaw on.  I
drilled a hole through the  middle and suspended it with some nylon
rope.  They had a tonne of fun getting to it and were rewarded with a
nibble...LOL.  I would not recommend them as part of their diet though
as they are high in protein and salt.  Like all treats... now and again
is best..:)  All the best for you and your new boys.

Ours get dog kibble as part of their regular mix, however it's a
particular brand chosen for suitable protein & fat levels. I don't know
if one can get a biscuit that meets the same requirements. The diet we
use: http://www.shunamiterats.co.uk/diet.html
