Evening Everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and let you all have a gander at my new boys!! :-)

I went and collected them this afternoon, and the previous owners very
kindly let me have their cage so I have re-vamped it a little as it was
pretty dirty and just bars as floors so I popped out and got them some lino
and some new cage furniture and now I will let them get used to their new
home, and me for a few days before I try to introduce them to my old boys.

Have any of you introduced boys between 15-18 months? I've only ever
introduced old rats to babies, so I shall do this slowly and gradually :-)
I'd love to see them in with my other boys in the 6ft bookcase so fingers
crossed!

They are so friendly and curious - They have settled in very well already
and I adore them!!

Enjoy :-)

Looks like these little guys will be quite spoiled in their new home.
I have introduced older rats before. It takes time but it can be done.
Just take it slow. Start with cages side by side and then meeting on
neutral ground, I like the bathtub cause it can be a scary place for the
rats and that's when they start to bond.

Asking a mad question Joanne! I know you actually bath your clan .. Must
confess your bathtime pic was my desktop wallpaper for awhile!! But, did you
do introductions in a dry bath, or wet? The bath would definately be neutral
ground, my old ones have never seen a bath!

I don't do intros in the water, although, when you think about it, it's
not a bad idea. But still, try in a dry bathtub first.

They look very content :-)
You made the right choice to adopt them.
They look very much like 2 boys I used to have , funnily enough there
everyday names were Beau and Zeph :-)

They cetainly look like happy boys now :o)  I once introduced a year old
rescue rat to a 15 months male and I couldn't have asked for it to go any
better.  After only a few intros on neutral ground (settee and bed) they
settled into the same cage quite happily, and before long became the best of
friends.  I know you already know all the tricks and tips like dabbing with
vanilla if there do seem to be problems.  Good luck with it!

Btw, who built your bookcase cage? - It looks fab!

It was a mixture of me and Al, but Al did do most of it! We took a jigsaw to
all the levels and cut holes, brought some wood and made ladders (there is
even one that goes to the floor for them to please themselves during free
time! We also brought some rabbit hutch mesh and made a door!!
The little hole at the side used to be for wire cages that we used when we
had a bigger brood! It's now got a metal grid blocking it but it's proved
handy for the boys to sniff the new ones through it! There has been a little
hissing! It was Beau too!! LOL

We are proud of our DIY-ness - It's the only thing Al has ever done! LOL -
We haven't done anything else in the flat!! :-)
