I completely forgot to post about this!

Smudge turned up about a day after my last post. My father was out in
the yard working on one of our cars, and looked up to see Smudge sitting
on the concrete step outside one of the barns, looking right at him!

A minute or two of calling her and she eventually wandered over to him!

From the smell of her, she was living in the hay barn for two days!

She was very hungry, and a bit hyper for a few days afterwards - didn't
like being held for more than a couple of seconds, but has settled down
since and is pretty much back to normal now.

So all's well that ends well!

Oh, and they've given the shredded paper a mix reception - Smudge tries
to pull it out of the house, Willow tends to just fall asleep on it!

Oh yes. Relieved doesn't really cover it. Still, I'd like to know how
she got out of the house in the first place...

I'm 99% certain she didn't slip out when I opened the back door for a
couple of seconds, so the only other route would be for her to make her
way upstairs, under the floorboards (which she could do from one place
upstairs only), down one of the pipe conduits (which run from the attic
down to below floorboard level downstairs), then out the air vent at the
back of the house, walk right the way around the outside, across the
yard, then into the hay barn...

We have a pretty large house here, it used to be a farm, built back in
1776. Solid brick construction, solid floors in places and floorboards
in others, and not many places where a rattie could get through. Quite
some trip for a l'il rattie, especially seeing as it was near freezing
outside for those few days!

Still, she's back now and loves her scritches more than ever. :)

You could write a book about her... "The Incredible Journey, Rat Style!"
