My Rescue Babies

I have my two new little girls tonight!  Rescued by a very brave young woman
from a nasty life and worse death and then delivered by a very compassionate
person.  These little ones have been through more in their few short weeks
than any rat should have to endure.

Anyhow, Portia and Cressida now have a forever home and are very happily
exploring their new place.  Having babies in the house is so much fun
(they're about 5 weeks old) - their antics are hilarious.  So far their
favourite things seem to be the hammock and the food dish.

I will try to post some pics soon.  Not that they will sit still for me.
Perhaps they'll say "cheese" if I give them some!

I hear you also picked up a little dog on your travels!  You seem to be a
"rescue magnet"!!

A tiny, maybe old, chihuahua.  He is smaller than a regular breed.  He
was running along the side of the road, a four lane, 80kms road.  He
was terrified and freezing, his coat is very short and not appropriate
to be out yesterday without a sweater or something.
Sarah has him, and I am trying to find out if anyone has reported him
lost in that area.  We will also be checking him for a microchip.  He
is not neutered, so maybe he has been used for breeding purposes.
He is freakin' adorable.  He never wants to leave your side, a total
lap dog.  Plus, Sarah tells me he went toilet in her cats litter box
last night.  How perfect is that!

Oh my... he must be trained. Someone must be missing him. It was really
good of you Vanessa to stop and pick him up. My god, he could have been
killed.

Hmmm, you would think so, but there are aspects of this little guys
condition and behaviour that are not boding well with me.  Like the
cowering and tail between the legs reaction when I put my hand near his
head.
I am contacting animal control and shelter facilites in the area today,
so far nobody has reported him lost.

That's also a reaction a dog will make to show his submission, that you
are the head of the pack and he obeys you.
I used to automatically suspect a dog doing this meant he was abused
until I noticed my own dog doing this a couple of times with big
strangers coming into my home. So I did some research and talked to a
dog trainer and this is what he told me.
I sure hope it's not the abuse.

I'm not familiar with dog behaviour, I have never had any.  I will
definitely keep that in mind.
Can everyone take a guess at who is jaded around here?  :)

We picked up a Ridgeback the other night running hell for leather along
the side of the highway.  We opened the Van door and he jumped in.
There was a chorus from the cheap seats of "can we keep him, can we keep
him?" ...lol.  The fact that he had a name tag didn't mean anything.
Poor guy was sooo thirsty that Hannah took her shoe off and filled it
with water from her water bottle so he could have a drink....we took him
to the Police Station until the Ranger arrived.  She said she could find
his owner as he was registered.... (Kids were not impressed with that
piece of news)..LOL

Congratulations on your new additions :o)  They may have had a bad start to
life but I know you will make sure they spend the rest of their lives
wanting for nothing and being spoilt to pieces!  Very elegant names, by the
way!
