I saw a picture of a play area for ratties made out of a kiddie pool with
toys in it.  I was wondering if anyone had tried this, and if their rats
liked it.  I'm always looking for new ideas for out time.

You mean one without the water in the pool right?
I think I seen a few like this, it sure is a need idea, but without a
good high wall around it, my ratties wouldn't stay put.

I have seen that as well, it has hardware cloth around it.  The
pictures I have seen are actually cages, not play areas.

I think if you could put up a barrier, like coroplast, so they won't
get out, it is a really good idea.  Quite a bit of room.

Rats are like children.  But water in a bathtub, and they'll kick and scream
all the way.  Put the same water in a pool and it's play time!

I had a rat named Scotty once, and he loved baths.  Scotty was overweight
and paralyzed from the waist down, so he had a mobility issue.  But, he
learned to swim and would dart around the tub as fast as everyone else would
try to dart out of it.  We surmised that he enjoyed the freedom it gave him.

I never thought of that with our old guys with hind leg problems, this
is a good idea.

Oh, Jacques is my 3-legged rat and I bet he would love the water idea.  He
is having a hard time getting around too, although he handles it very well.
I was thinking of the pool dry, but I suppose I could do both.  I suppose
they might jump out, but they are pretty reserved (probably because of the
cats in the house).  I once left their cage door open for 2 hours by
accident, and they didn't even come near it, nevermind try to get out.
Thanks for the replies!
