This morning I noticed a large mass on one of my rats, its located on the
ventral side a little to the left, just behind the front leg. The amazing
thing is that I played with them again just yesterday and I didn't notice
anything wrong, but today it's so huge, you can't miss it, it almost touches
the ground when the rat walks!! This is a female, 2years and 3 months old.
Could it be a tumor? Can a tumor grow so big overnight like that? The rat
behave normally, eating, drinking, not suffering...

Bening mammary tumor I assume.

That's exactly it and those damn things grow real fast. One minute
there's nothing there and the next is marble size.
You may have another 6 to 8 months before the thing is bigger than she
is. Or you could opt to have have removed.

Hmmm, Tumours don't come on overnight like that, at least if they do
it's VERY rare. I'd be inclined to think abscess apart from it's
location, which is usually indicative of a mammary tumour.

Opt to have it removed, it's usually a simple procedure and is easier
when the tumour is relatively small, so the longer you leave it the
harder it'll be to remove.

Check out my page on tumour treatment (it's got no pics so isn't icky):

http://www.freewebs.com/miscrats/howtotreatatumour.htm

(the links for mycoplex coriolus might be a bit out of date, been
meaning to fix that, but just search for Mycoplex Coriolus on Google,
you should get something, as long as they're 500mg tablets the doseage
is right)

but also check out this other document (also no pics):

http://www.freewebs.com/miscrats/tumouroranabscess.htm

If you do think you could be dealing with an abscess, this might help
(no pics either):

And for you or your vet, i have a blow by blow account of tumour
removal, it has pics so if you don't like icky stuff, don't look, but
maybe forward it to your vet:

Hope that helps you.

i had a rat, sven, and his tumor litterally "grew" in front of my eyes. i
was playing with him and in twenty minutes he got a huge mass on his leg. i
phoned my vet in a panic  ( this was evening so i got emergency services). i
brought him in and it was indeed a tumor. he was operated in the next few
days, the tumor did come back three times and the third time the leg was
amputated. sven lived to 33 months. i still miss him.
