Which brings us up to a total of four ratties.

Some of you may remember we adopted two girls about a month ago and one
of them decided to grow balls.  After giving it some serious thought and
checking around for pricing on neutering Pepper, we decided it wouldn't
be fair to him to risk surgery just because he was born with the wrong
plumbing.

Originally we had thought of taking one of them back and getting a new
rat of the same gender, but neither me nor my wife could part with
either of them.

So, we decided to adopt a new cage mate for each of them.  The girl is a
black rat with white feet and belly who we are thinking of naming Sierra.

The boy is a black and white hooded male we are thinking of naming Pippen.

Anyway, the introductions went well.  There was a little tusseling at
first, but after awhile they each fell asleep with their new cagemates.

The new ratties seem to be taking to their new home quicker than our
original two.  Both of them have already taken food from our hands, and
Pippen fell asleep on my stomach in my hand.  I took some pictures, but
they were kind of blurry.  I may post a link later.

All four of them are adorable.

Till next time...

Best Regards,

Congratulations on your new additions, sounds like they are settling in
well.  I love the names, I'd definitely stick with them.  Doesn't matter if
the pics are a little blurred, we would still like to see them :o)

That's great news!! I'm so glad your babies have buddies now. The new
guys take their cue from the current residence and so will adjust a lot
better.
Yes, I agree, even blurry pics are most welcome!!

Hi, everyone.

I uploaded some pics to yahoo photos, but it's my first time using it so
I'm not sure if it works.

Here's the link to give it a try...

Works just fine :o)   Your ratties are gorgeous.  In those last shots of
Pippin dozing I think he looks just like a mouse, so sweet!

I can't help noticing that in pic five - "all the ratties playing" - you
have your girls *and* boys out playing together. Were you planning to breed
from them? If not, I'd suggest keeping them seperate unless the boys are
nutless :)

Yeah, that was just for one group pic.  They are seperated 99.9% of the
time.  When they are not, I'm standing over them like a hawk.

These rats have been such great animals, I may consider breeding them in
a year or so.  It would be a shame to let such a tame and good tempered
line die out.

Please make sure you read up on breeding before you decide to do this.
In a year or so, your female will be much too old and you will
compromise her health and even her life breeding her then.
Also, keep in mind, it only takes seconds for a male to mount the female.
