OK, here I am back again so soon... My babies seem to sneeze a lot.
They've only been home a few days. I got a new cage with new water bottles,
etc. The pet store put pine bedding in and I plan to switch to the paper
with the first cage cleaning. Is this something I should worry about? They
have no drippage from the eyes or nose and no wheezy breathing. They bounce
all about, so they don't seem to feel sick.
My last girls died of respiratory disease so I am cautious. I realized that
I had the top of their old cage (they hadn't been in *that* cage for months
and months now) in the corner of the room. But, no contact with it and then
contact with them.
They don't sneeze continuously, just when they are playing/eating.
Thanks again!
Shari

Sneezing is typical behavior with new ratties in the home.
But if they are still on pine now, get them off of it ASAP!!
To try as much as possible to prevent myco/respiratory problems here's
what you need to do: healthy food (rat specific food)and fresh veggies,
big CLEAN wire cage, the more room the better,(climbing and running
strengthens the lungs)good bedding(no pine or cedar)and in your home, no
cigarette smoke. If you can remove those external stresses, then the
rats should become stronger and cope with their emotional stresses and
not go into myco each time there's a loud noise or a new pet is brought
into the home and such.
