Well we've had a bit of a week with one of our females, who had been poorly
for a few weeks. "Poppy" started with what looked like some sort of
irritation arounds the eye a little bit of watering.
We noticed her teeth needed clipping having grown pretty dramatically whilst
she was on her steriods for her ear complaint.
Earlier this week we noted the side of her snout was swelling, a visit to
the vets who diagnosed she had a abcess in her mouth and put her on a
penecillin based medication, he warned us at this point it could go either
way in his words redents sometimes don't respond as well as they would like.
Kept an eye on her when she came home unfortunately this morning we came
down to her finding her poorly.
Very sick, and obviously suffereing emergency visit to the vets who said
the absess had spread to her brain, presumably with infection.
We had to make THE decision we all hate to make, and Poppy was put to sleep,
vet said nothing else could be done. We've now 4 "reasonably" healthy ones
after loosing three in about as many months. Fingers crossed for their
continued health.

Dear Elegy, we are very sorry to hear about Poppy. May she find health and
happiness at Rainbow Bridge while she waits to be with you again.

I'm so sorry to hear about poor little Poppy. We've just come back from the
vet's about an hour ago, where we had to get our little Turing put to sleep.
He'd lost weight very suddenly and had a great deal of fluid in his lungs.
The antibiotics and decongestants the vet had tried were only slowing down
his deterioration, and we made *that* decision too. He was getting to the
stage where he was so weak and thin and so unsteady on his little legs, that
it was the only thing we could do. He seemed quite spaced out and wasn't
really aware of things around him. I worry for his brother, Teabag, who is
now having some time with Turing to come to terms with his brother's death.
It's always so hard.....
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Our thoughts are with you at this
such difficult time.
I'm sure Poppy and Turing are having a whale of a time together, along with
all our other rats who have left us. We have 3 other rats at home, so I
guess we take solace in our remaining little buddies at these times. I'm
sure you will be the same with your 4.

Maya,
We are so very sorry to hear about little Turing. We know you were trying
your very hardest to make him better and it is so unfair when nothing seems
to work.God bless him and Poppy at the bridge - there are so many wonderful
rats there( a few of our own included).

Dear Maya,
My thoughts are with you also and with Turing... It never is easy to make
that decision... but in doing so always remember. We have the ability to
end their suffering and let them go with love ..which is more than what we
can do for another human..
Blessing..
Regards Kate.

Sorry to hear little Turing didn't make it Maya - it's a horrible decision
to have to make but he had a great life and now he is at peace.
Take care of yourself and your other ratties.

I'm so sorry about little Turing. Helping our little ones on their way is
the kindest and most compassionate thing we can do for them when they are
suffering and no longer have a quality of life.
My thought are with you and little Teabag. Give him a big cuddle from me
:o)

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Keep the faith and love the rest while
they're with you. I know how it is to lose an animal companion as I have lost 2
since May. (our parrot and our parakeet) Hope things turn out well for you all.

Poor little mite, so sorry to hear of her passing. I've just had to have a
tooth extracted because I had an abscess, they are horrible, painful things.
She is no longer in pain now or suffering but at peace and happily playing
at The Bridge with all our little ones that have passed.
Sending all my well wishes to your other ratties, may they live long lives.

One of my first ratties had a stroke within 3 days of being home with
me. He had to be put to sleep as well. It was such a shame too - he
was all happy and loving right from the moment when he came home.
He was a sweetheart. =)
And yes, making that decision sucks.... always sucks....
