I went to see Cars with my kids a few nights ago. Among the trailers
was one for the forthcoming (summer '07) movie from Pixar,
_Ratatouille_. Evidently, it's a sympathetic portrayal of rats living
in a Parisian restaurant. You can find the trailer here=>

Let's hope that the movie brings more pet rat owners into the fold.

I sooo can't wait to see it!!! I sure hope though it doesn't make people
rush out and buy pet rats for their kids.

If it's popular it will :/
Just look at the Harry Potter films - some kids even tried to buy owls
as pets. It would be good if they somehow mentioned a link to some info
on responsible rat ownership, maybe on the website promoting the film. I
wonder if they've even thought about that.

I don't know - remember when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were all the rage
with kids, people were buying turtles for pets and then when they grew too
big were causing problems by releasing them to the wild. When the film
March of the Penguins came out over here shortly before last Christmas, a
baby penguin was stolen from a British zoo - you can bet some idiot thought
it would make a nice Christmas present for somebody close who had loved the
film. I guess the good thing in this case about rats is a lot of parents
(and indeed some kids) don't like them as they just can't make the
distinction between wild rats and pet rats and think they are all just
hideous dirty sewer creatures, so hopefully won't just rush out and buy
them!

They must have used the old Hollywood trick of substituting female rats for
males because... Oh, uh... it's animated. Never mind.

Lol... could you imagine watching a "male rat" animated? Everybodys
eyes would be trained on the realistic movement of the rats balls....
*imagines the shock in everybodys eyes as they pretend not to notice*

I think they animated the entire movie in sub-zero conditions.
