I've been using a diluted vinegar solution and paper towels to spot
clean my cage between the weekly scrubbing and I just had an idea to
make it easier. When my son used cloth diapers I read about a way to
make your own baby wipes. I've adjusted the recipe for cage cleaning
wipes and here it is:
Take a roll of paper towels and cut it in half so you end up with two
toilet paper sized rolls. (A saw, serrated knife, or electric carving
knife is good for this.) Then push the cardboard tube out of the middle
of the roll. Give tube to rats. :) Put one of the mini paper towel
rolls in a round plastic container with a sealable lid. (Rubbermaid
makes good ones.) Mix up water and vinegar in whatever ratio you think
is best. I use one part vinegar, two parts water. Pour vinegar solution
over paper towels in the container to give it a thorough soaking, put
the lid on, and there you go! Handy wipes for fast clean-ups.
I hope some of you can use this. Anytime not spent cleaning cages is
more time to play with the rats!

P.S. My son is 2 and said his first sentence at the beginning of the
summer. He went up to the rat cage and said, "It's a wat!" Those r
sounds are still giving him some trouble.:)

That's a really good idea. I always buy baby wipes for my cages but I
may just try your trick. Thanks!!
