I've adopted a rat

Last week I've adopted a rat that lives at a shelter. His name is Vito, and
he can't be rehomed because of his bad health. But thanks to the support of
me and others, he can hopefully end his days happily at the shelter. I think
this is a really great way to (financially) support shelters.

Although Vito doesn't acutally live with me, I have given him his own spot
on my website. For now I have only one picture of him, but I'm hoping to get
more pictures soon.

looking boy

Aww, he reminds me of our Mea, despite being a guy (she loved her food).
Thanks for a nice story.

Why does his illness prevent rehoming? Is it due to contagion or would
it just be too stressful for him?

No, it's not that. Vito and his mates need a lot of extra care because of
their bad health, care an avarage slave-owner like me probably couldn't give
him. So I guess he could be rehomed, but the shelter where he lives
specializes in caring for rats with these kind of special requirements,
meaning he's probably better off there.

Oh, okay, I see. I did wonder, but then I wasn't sure such shelters
could offer such levels of care. Of course if they have enough funding &
one person dedicates their time to offering that level of care to
several sick rats it makes more sense. Thanks for explaining :)

I know if those poor fellows were in our shelters here in Canada, they
would get very minimal care and most likely euthanized. :(

Wow, that is so generous of you, what a great idea. More shelters should
allow us to do that, adopt a rat financially.
He's gorgeous. You have his colour listed as yellow, he's a fawn. ;)

Awww, he's lovely - and what a good idea to be able to help animals in need
out this way.

That's really good of you to do that. He very chubby and cute, looks a
little like my rat Ginger.
