Hi Naomi, I don't recommend any breeders in the Toronto area, most that
call themselves breeders are in fact rat mills. Why not check out the
THS? They've got loads of ratties and some are young.

There are no reputable breeders anywhere near the GTA.  Lots of
accidental litters, and rats in shelters and animal control facilities,
though.

Hi Naomi:
I am a breeder but I am in Ottawa. You are welcome to join our
Ontario chapter of the rat and Mouse club if you like. We have members
from all over and lots of help and great advice about pet rats.
I have been breeding occassionally now for many, many years and there
are not a lot of well recognized, experienced or reliable breeders out
there with a lot of knowledge about genetics and breeding them
properly.
My web site is www.lilratscal.com too for help and information about
pet rats and mice..

Hi there Carol, how are you?
How is it going over there on the ONRMCA forum?
Do you still maintain the detrimental policies regarding posts about
rescues and shelter rats, or did you have a change of heart towards
homeless rats and have relaxed those 'one post per homeless rat only'
type policies?
Hobo, and all his offspring, are doing very well by the way.  Those are
the rats up there in your neck of the woods that were abandoned, that
thanks to some GTA members, and Joanne the angel (of course), were able
to be saved.  You remember them, right?  I know that the topics being
discussed about them were all locked after a couple of posts were made,
so you might not have heard the news of their outcome.  Anyway, hope
there aren't any other rats abandoned on Ottawa property any time soon.
Hope all is well with you.
Vanessa

I have to step up and state something her. Carol you have some nerve offering
your website and then not offering an explanation as to why you can sell all
of these rats and never take them back in when in need. A good breeder will
help out everytime, if they cant house them they sure will pick them up until
someone else can help out. We are talking about rats here a small creature
not a large horse or something.

I know many good people who have been banned, had memberships deleted, postes
removed etc all when nothing was done wrong and said that was out of line.

The simple fact is your are selfish, and in this for your self period. You
dont welcome newcomers unless they are buying from you. You will be learning
some new lessons in 2008 and many more people are getting a good picture of
the character you really are.

You are responsible for the rats you breed. Dont try to say they are not
yours cause we all know you produce high volume but dont show that on your
website as you try to make people think you practice what you preach when in
fact you do the complete opposite.

I dont expect a reply either as you are famous for avoiding the truth and
offering any explanation for your wrong child like behaviours.

Anyone looks for a healthy sweet rat should steer far from lil ratscals rat
mill. I can bring back many names of people, rats, places if I need too to
make this point clear.

Well, well Louise you know nothing about me at all and only the lies and
gossip of a few supposedly rescue people who hate any breeders of any kind.
when any new people come and ask your little handful click group for a
breeder there is no such thing.
It is too bad you people who are always risking the health of rats by
mixing them didn't learn a littl;e more first. You have chased more people
away by investigating even your own kind behind their backs so don't get on
me.
Funny thing is you all want a few nicely marked rats or dumbos and can't
admit it. You all have your own oops litters and jump all over people who
have an accident then hide your own ones.
I happen to take all precautions and take back all my rats if evr any are
returned and only 2 cases have been returned in 10 years.
I have sifgned contracts, pedigrees and rescued more rats than you can
possible know.
Yep I banned a few who needed banned and were so rude to new people so
there you go.
I accept all newbies and that is a joke and for that matter you people
moved into my forum only to use me for pictures and to place your accidents
and what ever. Why don't you help the Toronto humane society. You knowck all
breeders in Ontario and even pretending to be nice while you are working so
hard at back stabbing.
The biggest joke here is that you went on and on learning so mych on my
forum used some of my information too, copied my new different style of forum
going with wonderful caring people then you moved in and started your
scheming way of rescuing.
I am not the first one you have jumped all over and I am sure I won't be
the last either.
As far as my web site goes I was too darn busy doing the forum.
You bad mothed me on my own forum, e-mailed all my members most who already
had rats from me too behind my back.
You accused me of not taking in a wild rat and rescuing it endanging babies
to go out to innocent people. I rescue but I arrange all through the forum
and on phone plus helped you guys out too but now you are too bitter. I guess
you are giving someone else a rest.
So many people already know exactly what you are up to and twist and lie
without getting your facts straight. Your organization if you want to call it
that is a gloriefied rat mill for sure mixing rats to spread viruses etc with
improper quarantines too. The funny thing is I have hasd 2 litters in one
year and one or two in the previous year so lets get our facts straight.
So after another new forum has come up very nice who doesn't lie, google
all over ever rat you find and sick ones you push on people give others a
break.
Get a life people!  Of course you will probably remove this. Selfish? No
just a properly done Rattery many have copied too.

Hi Naomi,

There are no rat breeders that I know of in the GTA, and very few anywhere in
Canada at all anymore.  After the "rat market" peaked in popularity for a
while, there was a sharp dropoff in response to the cost of vet care, which
increased 2-5x in a relatively short period.  On the other side of the coin,
many breeders cared about their rats and chose to quit rather than depriving
their pets of the proper health care they deserved.  Your chances of getting
healthy rats are about even nowadays; but slightly better from a rescue
because those actually receive medical attention while petstore rats
generally do not.

Here are some resources where you will find available rats:

THS, of course.  Click "other animals"
