I just thought I'd mention that we had to put our cat, Ducas, down today.
The reason I mention it here is that he has always been a friend of our
rats.  On many occasions, we would let him and the rats play, and they would
often groom each other.  One free range rat of ours, the late, great Troy,
used to curl up with Ducas and they would take c/rat naps together.

Ducas was my daughter's cat, and she is moving out this weekend.  Ducas was
18 years old and his organs have been failing, so my daughter and wife made
the decision to put him down.

That's going to be hard, losing Ducas and your daughter moving out...
almost like a milestone.
I'm really sorry your kitty, friend of rats is gone. :(

I'm so sorry to hear about Ducas. What a unique cat. Its great that he
lived to an old age, although it's never nice when they go.

Hugs,

Dewi.

I'm so sorry to hear that.  It's heartbreaking isn't it.  He lived to a ripe
old age and sounds like he was a lovely character, I would have loved to
have seen him snuggled up with Troy.  It will be strange for you without
Ducas and your daughter around.  Take care.
