Hello there,
I have a male rat that is about 2 years old and he has developed a few
bumps on his tail.  One is rather large and seems to have scabbed over lately.
I have read a few things here on Ivermectin as a use to try and cure this but
I have been looking for it online and it seems to be used with other
medicines (like in horse dewormers).  Is it okay to use it in combination
with other ingredients along with Ivermectin or should I try and get it buy
it's self??

Thanks,
Gwen

I would recommend bringing your little guy to the vet. The vet can then
determine what would be the best course of action. If it is mites,
Revolution is another great product prescribed by vets for a mite
treatment.
Is it only the tail that is affected? Are there scabs under the chin and
neck? That is usually commonplace with a mite problem.

That is the only place that I saw them at.  Other then the bumps he's fine.

I wouldn't think it's mites then.
You could try gently cleaning the tail using a toothbrush. It might just
be dirty. You could also use peroxide and see if that helps.

you can also feed garlic cloves in moderation perhaps a small smidgen to see
if he likes it or can handle it... it prevents mites from occurring... also
fleas and ticks... I've heard that onions are suppose to not be good for
many animals, however garlic is okay in moderation...

My rat had a similar skin ailment of the tail - it was successfully treated
with Fucidin - it's a cream which contains fusidic acid. As your rat may
not have the same ailment, I would advide as others have that you should
take him to the vet. .

Just wanted to let you guys know that I took Stewy to the vet today and the
bumps are not mites.  He said that sometimes male rats can develope skin
conditions like this so that is definitely good news.  So I wanted to thank
all of you for your assistance :)

That's great news! Will he be treated for this condition? It sounds like
what Rosemary had suggested.
