Man....I tell you, I have never been so relieved in all my life!

Last night during out time one of the baby rats got startled by a
noise and scarpered. I couldn't find him before I went to bed, and
with 8 cats in the house I was expecting to wake up to...leftovers.

No more then half an hour after getting up though, I hear crunchy
scraping noises in the kitchen. Automatic thought - mouse. Then I
thought "baby rat!" and went looking. Pulled lots of stuff out near
the stove and there he was, safe and sound gnawing on a bone, none the
worse for wear after spending the night away from mum, family and in a
house with 8 cats.

Thankfully he is sufficiently used to me/most noises that my shifting
stuff didn't scare him into running and hiding again.

I can breath again. But no more having ten babies out at a time any
more!!

He is making a great deal of noise telling his mum and siblings all
about his night out by the sounds of it.

Phew! Glad you were able to find your rattie!

So do you really have 8 indoor cats? The most number of indoor cats I
had was 6. It drove me balmy, but fortunately my DH (i.e. husband)
worked out how to cat proof and enclose the backyard and it's been
calm, fur-free and pleasant ever since.

No, *I* lay claim to 6 free range cats (in/outdoor). There are two
extras here for another week. Thankfully the extras are long haired so
I will have no qualms about rehoming them. ;)

Best story ever. And we have 2 indoor cats and 3 outdoors that we share with
the neighbors. They were abandoned by some renters down the street. I HAD to
care for them, too, LOL. Of course they also bring their assortment of
friends by, giggle.

Take care and enjoy your wee ones,
Lynn

Cats use to be my favourite pet, until I discovered rats. But I do
still really like them - always will. All of my cats were strays at
one stage. I don't consider 6 cats a lot anymore. Them most I've cared
for at any one time was 12, but they weren't all mine.

that happened once when i was a kid. my mom coaxed the little guy out with
food but he hid for 3 days before he finally got hungry enough to let us get
him. another time one of them crawled up in back of our fridge. i got him
out with a brush-tipped vacuum cleaner (didn't hurt him only scared him).
