I think I have just been insulted. I emailed a woman who rehomes
rescue rats, to offer myself as a potential home for rescues, and
after she checked my website (blog?) sends me back an email with this
in it "...Based on your comments on your website, I suspect that you
do intend to breed your rats with the aim of selling them to pet
shops. Under those circumstances, I cannot consider you as someone who
can offer a suitable home for rescued rats. .."
Gawd, do I come across as that mercenary? Sheesh. And all I was trying
to do was give some other poor little unwanted ratties a home.
Stunned..just stunned.

Oh yes... you sound like a breeder to me. You let your babies in your bed,
the drawers of your dresser, feed them from your own food, rescue baby rats,
an belong to a pet rat group... how in the world can you expect anyone to
think you give your rats love and a good home.
JOKING... what an prat that woman seems! Tell her to come her and see for
herself.

Unfortunately, with all the incidences with less than desirable people
in the past, the rescue "industry" have become quite leery of people. I
deal in rescues so I know where they are coming from. I was also not
regarded as ideal at one time but keeping up with the rapport and
helping out with donations and/or transports proves your good faith in
the rescue world.
People that dedicate their lives to rescuing are completely against
breeding which makes sense because these people are spending money and
other resources in helping those rats that have been abandoned so it
stands to reason they don't care to see new babies brought into the
world when they have so many that needs homes. I urge you to contact her
again, offering other services? like transport, donations or even
foster? Rescuing rats is very rewarding. :)

I understood where she was coming from, I didn't didn't appreciate
how she grabbed one little paragraph and judged me on it - without
knowing who I was or what I'd been doing, or what my aims were.
Personally I think a more appropriate response would be.."I have read
in your blog, blah blah blah, and am concerned that...blah
blah..perhaps you could explain in more detail before I make a
descision"
But anyway. Its done now. I have to get word from the neighbour about
what she is doing with the babies that are still here, coz she is in
the process of moving and I want to know so I can well...not make
plans, coz I have already made them...ah...tell the world that the
babies are *mine* ;) (which, incidently will negate the 'need' for
companion animals)

I would ask her specificly what comments made her think that.
Saying you love rat babies doesn't mean you intend to breed as a LOT of
rescues arrive pregnant.
