This one isn't the Gambian rat. Apparently it's a new species of rat - which has no fear of humans. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2007/12/photogalleries/giantrat-pictures /index.html The guy holding the rat in the photo might be a Mammal Expert and the rat might be sociable, but dear lord I hope it's been tranquilized! I wonder what kind of pet he'd make - if you gave him a nice flea bath, of course. He'd have to have his own indoor / outdoor play area, because my furniture and stereo cables could never survive such an onslaught of chewing. And if it has a rattie personality like all of our rats, wouldn't that be great?????? But then there is the issue of chewing, that rat would be way more destructive than ours.
