This one isn't the Gambian rat. Apparently it's a new species of rat -
which has no fear of humans.

The guy holding the rat in the photo might be a Mammal Expert and the rat
might be sociable, but dear lord I hope it's been tranquilized!
I wonder what kind of pet he'd make - if you gave him a nice flea bath, of
course. He'd have to have his own indoor / outdoor play area, because my
furniture and stereo cables could never survive such an onslaught of
chewing.

I want one too! That thing is cool! And if it has a rattie personality
like all of our rats, wouldn't that be great?????? But then there is the
issue of chewing, that rat would be way more destructive than ours. But
imagine how snuggly it could be! We could start carrying around these
rats like heiresses carry around little dogs!

They showed these on our local news last night and the news anchor woman got
all grossed out! I wanted to slap her silly, LOL
They are stunning and appeared so gentle.

the rat looks kind of old. i wonder if they also live longer than regular
rats. it would be so sweet to have a 10-year lifespan rat !
