Not my style of humour, but some of these are actually quite funny... I
particularly like the coathanger-rat, and the rat who appears to be
pushing his owner out of the picture!

That definitely *is* my style of humour. :-D I really like that site, I've
even sent in a couple of my own pictures:

The sceptic, unlike the cynic, will never utterly banish the possibility,
however remote, that people on the other side of an argument might be right.

Its funny, and I've saved a few to email to friends, but I cant stand the
terrible spelling used.  Its not like using correct spelling on easy words it
that hard!

Part of the fun is to try very hard to use the *incorrect* spelling.

The misspelling is deliberate. It's supposed to come off as child-like.

It's called "lolspeak", Kitty Pidgin (or Rat Pidgin, in our case), or
Kitteh (Ratteh). Simply because afaik, lolcats were on the scene before
lolrats were, so the terminology is based around them.

This is from Wikipedia:

"The caption is intentionally written with deviations from standard
English spelling and syntax,[8] featuring "strangely-conjugated verbs,
but [a tendency] to converge to a new set of rules in spelling and
grammar."[9] These altered rules of English have been referred to as a
type of pidgin[8] or baby talk.[1] The text parodies the grammar-poor
patois stereotypically attributed to Internet slang. Frequently, lolcat
captions take the form of snowclones in which nouns and verbs are
replaced in a phrase.[1] Some phrases have a known source[10] while
others seem to be specific to the lolcat form."
