Hi everyone. I would like to ask for some suggestions on how to tame
down our new wild boy, Bernard, estimated 1 year old. We brought him
home from the Humane Society. He was given up bc he was aggressive with
the previous owner's other rat(s), and she couldn't spend enough time
with him. We have had him neutered and treated for mites, although he is
still scratching and I wonder if they're all gone. I let him out each
day for free roam time and he's very very active. He lets me pick him
up and he likes to ride around on my shoulder, but sometimes he'll come
bite my feet, arms, ears, hands for no reason... kinda hard! He hasn't
drawn blood, although we know he certainly can. I'm the only person in
our family he'll tolerate.
Ideas?
Hope you and your fuzzies are doing well.
Thank you so much,
Marlo

can't say much other than just keep working on the little guy. by one
year-old, they tend to be very set in their ways.

My Jack, who I've had since he was 5wks old, began doing the exact
same thing around 8 months old. He seems to do it out of curiosity, or
simply because he doesn't know what to do with himself, rather than
out of aggression or fear. Jack finally did break the skin on my son's
earlobe.
Everyone has told me to neuter him and that it will change him for
sure. I've been reluctant to do it- hoping that Jack will outgrow the
nipping.
I squeak VERY loud when he nips me hard, which has worked a bit. He
nips less often & not as hard lately, but he's still banned from
shoulder rides for now!! LOL Jack has a littermate, another male-
Rocky, but isn't aggr. towards him at all.
Rocky, now almost 1yr. old, has become aggr. very recently towards
everyone except me- lunging, mouth agape- breaking the skin. Neutering
looks like the best option.
