Yikes!  A Rat Came in Through The Toilet!  Need Advice!

Little fellow was there this morning.  He hopped out and scampered
between the vanity and the wall so I couldn't get to him.  I left him
a cookie, closed the door (I have two cats) and went to work.  I set a
trap tonight  that will hopefully catch him.  It's a tapered tube that
leads to a plastic container with some cheese.  I rigged it up with a
cardboard tube, tape, etc.

Assuming I can corral him, I'm wondering whether I could keep him as a
pet?  He is charcoal gray with a black nose, no longer than 4" not
including the tail.  He's not my vision of a sewer rat, so I'm
guessing that he may have been a pet rat.

Obviously, I'm not going to kill him.  I prefer not to turn him loose
and think he'd do well in an enclosed environment I could build for
him.

I have no experience with rodents though.  Is this a good idea or am I
nuts to even consider it?  Any tips?

Thank you!

i'd advise against it. he'll never adapt to life in captivity very well.
you'd never be able to play with him like you would a real bred-for-pet rat.
