I gave Cecily and Julie a freshly-picked tomato from the greenhouse.
They started fighting over who got to eat the fresh, juicy green stuff
at the top while ignoring the actual red bit ;-D

I can believe this. Our two will each just about anything except
tomatoes. Broccoli, green beans, peas, just about any other veggie, but
they turn their little pink noses up at tomatoes.

I believe that the little green bit is toxic.

This is true. The tomato is a member of the deadly nightshade family (as
are potatoes and chili peppers, for that matter), and the green parts of
the plant contain glycoalkaloids that cause gastrointestinal upset and
other symptoms.
