Scabs

Mariette, you brought up a good topic for a post.

Damn scabs!!

I'm really starting to think that scab can be a result of just plain and
simple "over grooming".
I've treated my rats for mites and lice.
They don't really scratch all that much.
They are not on high protein.
And it's only a few in the bunch.
I noticed when I give them baths and cut their back nails, the scabs heal
and disappear.

Ugh... anyone else have ideas about these "other" evil, evil things...

We've never had a problem until recently and no major scratching as
with mites/lice, so all I could come up with was the idea of maybe
a little too much protein, but I don't actually think that's really
the culprit either.  Over-grooming sounds as good as anything
else to me at this point.

I'm definitely going to try your suggestion of trimming their nails at
least, though; that certainly makes sense.  Thanks so much.
