I brought Chase in this morning to the cluster snatchers and a few hours
later, I went to pick him up. I was in the car and I noticed he was bleeding
and not just little drops. I turn the car around and go back to the vets
with my face white as a ghost, I'm sure. In the end, it was not critical and
the vet added tissue glue to the area... something about being a little to
fatty in that area. Chase is now in his little cage, recuperating, but you'd
swear nothing has happened. I'm trying to get him to calm down and relax but
no... little bugger is all over the place. I'm thinking of letting him join
his cage Sunday morning.
So alls well that ends well... :)

Hi Joanne,
It always amazes me how quickly rats recover from surgery .They don't seem
to know that are supposed to be recuperating do they?Well Done Chase - you
are better off without the ugly things anyway  ;o)

Hi Joanne,
I think our Teddy will be the next for the chop in the old gonads area he is
being quite bitey through he cage bars but is OK when you get him out so we
will give him the benefit of doubt be for the big decision.

Hi,
Well I know I'm happy I had Roscoe done.  My hands are no longer bloody
messes.  Roscoe bounced back fast too and I ended up putting him back in
with his brothers sooner than I was told to during the day and then
eventually sooner at night.  His depression at being separated overrode  any
harm to the "glued" area.
The only thing I fear is that the next boy might need it done. He has now
decided he is the king of the cage and then so on and so on!
Congrats to Chase and all those kinder, gentler boys out there.  I sure
wish I had kept a list of all the descriptions of the removals.  I just love
how colorfully everyone describes the procedure!  J

That sounds wonderful Joanne..:)  I found Cairo was a lot happier once he
was returned to his cage mates too...  I am off to the Vets in the morning
so Cairo can have his stitches removed...( Cairo removed them 2-3 days after
surgery)... A Check up may be a better option.  I will also ask about the
cost of getting Rodney Rat Bag neutered.  He is living with Gizmo now but I
don't think Giz is too pleased about it all.  Mind you, Gizmo sleeps nearly
24/7 now...:(  They had one fight which ended up with Gizmo upside down
completely with his legs in the air Screaming !!!  I intervened but no
damage was done...LOL.  Now Rodney spends an awful lot of time stealing ALL
the paper etc to make a nest in the opposite corner from Gizmos Igloo....
They just stay out of each others way it seems...no shacking up
nothing...:(  I am hopeful that may change...  So that's all the latest from
Rodney and Co...

Regards Kate

Rodney and Gizmo may turn out to really like each other. If they aren't
killing each other, then it's a step in the right direction. lol
I bet one day you will find them both curled up together... now that would
be a sweet picture.

It would be a sweet picture indeed..:)  I have nothing but trouble with that
darn Rodney rat bag... He is a Kleptomaniac.. No matter what I put in their
house he steals it !!  I got smart I added 2 of everything... Rod Rat Bag
now steals 2 of everything...  He has quite an impressive stash at opposite
ends of the house to Gizmo.  Gizmo of course wouldn't dream of going and
taking anything back..:((
Cairo went to the Vets this morning and as usual sucked up to her...
(should change his name to Romeo)  The Vet laughed when she saw he had
removed his own stitches.  She is more than happy with him... all nicely
healed with fur growing back as well.  His breathing isn't the best at the
moment but we agreed to wait a week or so to see if it calms down after all
the stress he has been through.. Vet also suggested a change in season may
not be helping either....
We discussed Rodney Rat Bag and she laughed at his antics.  I said I was
considering getting him neutered and she said just to let her know when and
she will do me a deal on the operation seeing as I took him in..:)  She also
said if I need medication for Cairo just to ring in and pick it up... no
need for a consultation... Sounds like I may have found another good Rat
Vet..:)  Not bad for a mornings work eh?... I wish everyone a happy day and
to those who have lost a well loved Rattie... my thoughts are with you...

Kind regards Kate.

that't great Kate.. one reason that I'm not too eager to take my rats
to the vet now is that I have a new vet, only went there once to have
another rat put to sleep, and I don't know if they know much about
rats. I spent yesterday evening reading up on rats diseases and
medications on the internet, but I think I have to be careful with
this if I go.. vet may not like me for trying to be smarter..
well, I'll try to be optimistic, maybe they turn out to be
rat-experts.

good luck with the Rodney & Gizmo drama.. sounds like you don't need
to watch any tv with this going on in your house..

How true Klary,  I have my own Soap Opera going on...:)  As for the Vet...
Knowledge is power...  I too read and read I also obtained Debbie Ducommons
Rat Handbook.  Armed with knowledge..:) I went to the Vets and very politely
told her my diagnosis my thoughts on medication etc... sometimes its just in
the way we say things..:)  If you go in with the attitude of "Sharing in the
Care" of your Rattie chances are you will have a good outcome.  On the other
hand if you go in as if you know it all it will probably get a Vets hackles
up....:))  At the end of the day you know your Rats better than any Vet
does.  Best of luck and remember..You're the one paying ..LOL

I'm so glad you have a great rat vet, they are so important in the care of
our babies. Definitely get Roddy boy done...it may help him settle down.
Chase is doing better each and every day...next one may be Oliver...

Hi Kate, I've got my ups and down... last weekend had to be one hell of a
roller coaster ride of emotions for me.
Saturday, was my 15 year wedding anniversary, I also had Chase not settling
down and spotting from his surgery, then Benny passed away and to top it
off,  I was on strike and the company settled so I was to return to work.
It was so odd going through all these feelings.
In the end, I'm feeling better about my sweet Benny going to the bridge and
being so happy again. It's always hard to lose your "first" rat.
Chase is much better, almost completely healed and back in his cage with his
buddies.
My hubby and I will celebrate our anniversary at another date since I
couldn't do anything on that day... I was too "crazy".
And now, I'm back to work... money coming back in, is always a good thing.
;)
Thanks for asking Kate... you're a real sweetie, you know that don't you ;)

So glad to hear Chase's op went well and to hear he's doing great.  Love and
scritches to the little fella!
