I have an appointment in an hours time for Gizmo.  My last act of love will
be to set him free.... He no longer walks he hasn't eaten or drunk anything
in the last two days.  He will not take anything by hand either.  His
breathing is not right and he is bone cold to the touch.  As I write he is
lying snuggled in a blanket in the sun half collapsed over his food dish....
It breaks my heart to see him like this... The shine has gone from his
eyes....  I know his brother is waiting for him along with all the other
animals I have had to let go ....  I will write again later.  Thank you all
for your kind support.

Kate.

It's hard, but you are doing the right thing.
Lots of hugs and kisses for Gizmo and for you!

Jackie

Thank you Jackie for your support..:)  I have just returned from the Vets.
I know it was the right decision.  Abbey ( my Vet) checked him over
thoroughly and discovered one of his Kidneys was just a hard lumpy mass and
also that his breathing was bad... she said she could put him on fluids and
give him something to make his appetite return but all it would give him
would be 2 - 3 days at the most.  As we all know Kidney failure of any sort
in a animal is extremely painful..:(  not a difficult decision at all.
It is thanks to Gizmo that I have such a love of Rats now, for that I say
thank you "My Big Boy"  I can imagine the welcome you will have gotten from
Mr Mischief.  It will be a lovely reunion.  I certainly hope you don't rest
in peace,  I wish for you to be doing all the fun Ratty things again...  Be
free my baby...We will be reunited one day.

Kate.

I have posted pics of Gizmo today ... not how I will remember him
though...:)

What a lovely little guy... they sure do change when they are ready to go
home.
You did the bravest and loving thing for Gizmo...
Take comfort in his memories...
I love the pic with Gizmo cuddling in your neck... what a sweetie...

Sorry to hear of your loss.  But it sounds like you and Gizmo both knew it
was time.  I'm sure you will agree that it is a real honor that they want to
spend their last hours with us holding them.  And a real privilege that
Gizmo and all our little friends spend their short time on earth with us.

How true..:)  My Mother was saying today that they snuggle in as their way
of saying thank you for looking after them... as they have no other way of
showing it..:)  Kind of nice..:)

I'm so sorry to hear about Gizmo, bless his little heart.  He is at peace
now, no longer suffering, and he had known a good life full of love and
care.  My thoughts are with you.
