Yup, we went and did it again...LOL. Two little 5-6 week old boys...LMAO
They have grey coloured fuzz at the moment so Im not sure what colour they
will be when they grow up. We don't have grey coloured rats in this country
as far as I know. The one Hannah chose was a fairly normal straight up
kinda guy who calmed down once she cuddled him. As for the demon I
chose..... if I had to wait another minute I think I would have walked out
without him. He did not want to be caught at all !!!! I have never known
such a Houdini... Hannah's one is called Caesar and my horror is called
Amadeus although I could think of a few other more fitting names...:) After
lots of cuddles and down my top time I put them in a smaller house to get
use to the other fellas etc.... All Amadeus has been doing is feeding his
face..:)) He couldn't care less about the big boys although they are all
over the cage. I think I will try some introductions this afternoon. I
will post pics of them when they are out next.
Regards Kate
P.S. I think Hannah is secretly hoping Caesar turns out to be an Agouti
like Theo was..:(

We do we do we doooo!
Just keep an eye on them and let me know how the colour goes. We have blues
and Russian Blues and Minks (2 kinds) and Siamese (can look grey when in
baby fluff) and even Agoutis can go into a grey-mode.
I'll be happiest if I can help work this out!
Are you the Kate who once had a little Dumbo boy from me...? This would be
almost 4 yrs ago.
Being licked by my matriarch rat Octarine, Russian Blue Dumbo, she says i
need to give her more choccy buttons.

whoops.... sorry!
But now your "no grey rats" makes more sense. I talk to a lot of rat
owners/breeders in Aus, and their gene pool is almost the same as that in
NZ.
Greyish-brown with black eyes (once described as "storm-cloud" coloured) is
a Mink... not genetically the same as Mink in the USA and UK though.
Lightish beigey-grey with dark red eyes is what's called Lavender or Dove by
Aus rat clubs - it's a dilution of Mink by the Australian ruby-eyed gene
(again, confusingly, genetically distinct from Ruby-eye in US & UK).
There's also the new Blue coloured rat in Australia - not sure if you've got
it in NZ yet. You'll know if yours are Blue.. it's a bright grey shade with
a real blue tint, much blue-r than blue/grey cats & dogs. It also normally
has whitish undercolour especially along the flanks. Eyes are black. This
gene is genetically the same as the Blue rat gene found in the rest of the
world, although Australian Blues appear to have a bleeding disorder linked
the gene, and like Blue rats elsewhere, can sometimes be less robust than
other colours.
Other than that - not sure what else they could be - piccies will help! (And
be avidly devoured...lol)

You are incorrigible... more pics?..LOL My Rats are sick of me hounding
them with camera in hand...:)) but a few more of course wouldn't hurt..:))
I was reading on another Rat group that is NZ based that they are going to
try and name the different colours we have here....If they do I will be no
better off than I am now.... It gets so confusing. Life would be easier if
there was a World Wide Standard..:))

They sound beautiful!!! I can't wait for pics. I did that too, go and get a
similar looking rat to the one I had just lost. I did it with my Ira and my
Shai. For Ira, I bought a look alike for my sister's colony and named her
Irene and for my Shai, I bought a beautiful silver blue boy and named him
Chase.
Did I mention, I can't wait for pics!!!!!

One of mine was named Ninja because of his uncanny ability to escape any
cage. It was a weird feeling when I would turn around and look at his
cage, see it empty, turn back around to see his little face peeking out
from under my monitor. He was a hooded rat so it seemed fitting.

Funny you should mention that- When my vet was ready to see you, he
would walk out and call the pets name. So Ninjas "full name" on paper
was Ninjitsu Oslo Saqachuea Moschops III. If that wasn't bad enough, my
alpha males name was "Dr. General Julius Mahjonies Caeser Cajones
Bignuts Moschops the first and only" (at home I called him D'artagnan).
My vet hated me. :)

LMAO and I thought my choice of names were bad enough. When I asked Hubby
his thoughts on the names for the babies, he just gazed heavenward.... kinda
said it all...LOL Poor long suffering male that he is..:))
