Hi. This is my first posting to the group.
A year and a half ago I acquired 2 companion rats, Chocolate and
Biscuit. They were 3 months old and their reason for coming to me was
that their owner had become aware that her daughter was allergic to
rats.
Sadly little Biscuit passed over to the Rainbow Bridge after a further
3 weeks. Meanwhile Chocolate has continued to flourish and is a big
healthy girl, measuring 16 inches from nose to tail!
Do you think she would enjoy the companionship of another full-grown
girl? She is in a Chinchilla cage that would accommodate 2 rats as she
made short work of her plastic cage, gnawing at a hairline crack and
creating a big hole.
Look forward to hearing from you
Rachel.

Hi Rachel, welcome!!!
Sorry for your sweet Biscuit... the girls have such lovely names.
How is Chocolate when new things are introduced to her, such as another
animal or another human in the home? Is she remains passive and not stressed
about it, she may benefit from the companionship of another rat. But I would
suggest 2 babies. She may become very maternal with them. But if you are
experienced in intros, or have done plenty of research, then I would
encourage you to try and introduce another female about her age.
I sure hope it works out because seeing a lone rat be given a buddy, it
completely warms your heart!

Welcome to the group Rachel, I hope you find it as enjoyable and as

useful information and always willing to help. Hope to see some

Hi Rachel,
If she's been on her own for so long, she may prefer to stay that way! But I
echo Joanne's idea... you have obviously grown to love rats, and two new
babies would be wonderful.... young ratlets are magical happy things. If she
decides she doesn't like them, then they have company for each other and you
won't be left ratless when she goes. Although, you would have to get another
cage for them!
I notice from the Where are You Located that you are in Devon... I don't
know if this is near you, but Rattyhaven rat rescue is also in Devon,
possibly Exmouth if I am not mistaken. They may have rescued babies which
they would only be to happy to home with you and Chocolate.

I have spoken to the lady who runs Rattyhaven in the past as she was
in the local paper. She has my phone number and I live not far away.
It sounds a good place.
When I get round to it I will send a picture of Chocolate. And I have
read everyones advice, thanks.
Will write again soon

If it were me..? I would try two baby girls..:) that way they are company
for each other if the older one wants some time out...LOL. Best of luck
with whatever decision you make..:)
