Hi There,

We have found that our rats just love pine cones... They will play with them
and move them about...... With all the toys they have (the ones that cost!)
they like the cones better !!!!!

Pine releases oils which can kill rats, certainly the wood shavings - I'd
take them away until you can verify whether they are safe, although I'm
fairly certain they are not!

I didn't know that Pine shavings are toxc to rats. I knew that Cedar was
toxic to young guini-pigs and other young rodents though. ( It can
paralize them)

I have used Pine shavings for hamsters, gerbils and rabbits for over 15
years with no problems.

Actually, pine shavings is not good for all small animals, including
rabbits.
Just like humans, some animals are affected while others seem to be more
immune to the toxic effects.
For example, some humans get cancer with smoking while others do not.
It's a chance you take when you choose pine bedding on small animals.
So why risk it?

Wow thanks for the advice. I think my little ones will have to get used to
there toys... Don't want to risk there health.
