Does anybody know if there is any risk of contamination from using non aquaria Co2 cylinder and regulator to feed my Calcium Reactor. I've used a cheap disposable Co2 'welding gas' cylinder, brass pressure regulator and brass needle valve. Works fine but now I'm thinking what if the copper leaches out of the brass and contaminates my tank. My set up cost a fraction of the equivalent aquaria supplies item, which is more like medical grade equipment. Any advice welcome. CO2, even if wet, creates to weak acid (H2CO3) to react with metalic copper and migrate in a gas form to the water... The CO2 gas will not harm the fittings, but your SW will kill it within days. So if your plan includes using them for water, then dont even think about it. jc |
