Hi Guys...

I've had this blue (or maybe aqua colored) or gelatinous stuff growing
in my tank since... forever - 18 months anyway. It was dime sized, but
now it's spreading over some of my green star polyps and I'm thinking
I should erradicate it. Anyone know what this stuff is, good, bad, or
indifferent ? In the picture, it's the goop up in the top left...it's
VERY slippery to the touch, and, well, gooey. It always seems to
bounce right back into shape when I try to peel it, but it's way too
slippery to peel... Any thoughts ?

Thanks for any input.

Looks like a kind of encrusting sponge to me...

I have some of a pink encrusting sponge, and when I touch it accidentaly
during some aquascaping/rock placement it is slimy to the touch.

On the picture you presented, there are several outgoing openings visible
- the hole the sponge pumps the filtered water out of itself through...
Of course I might be wrong, but it looks like a sea sponge to me :-)

I would suggest posting this picture next week on the www.reefcentral.com
in the Dr. Ron Shimek forum - he is great invertebrate zoologist...
We can only guess... He *knows* this stuff very well :-)

If you receive the id-response, please post it here - I am curious...

(Next week because he is off during end of weeks and weekends.)

I think most angels will eat it, but then you have the issues with angels
eating other things.

It could be Collospongia auris  or similar.

That's a sponge, dude. If you dont like it you can wipe it off with a
scrubber and pick up the pieces.
