I have a 75 Gal tank with 50lbs of Live Rock. I have a sand base, my tank has been established for over a year, I was wondering can I add live sand to the base or is this something that needs to be done during the set up of the tank. What are the benefits of having Live Sand in your base and is it worth while ? Thanks. you COULD add live sand, but it would be a waste of effort and money. Well I agree it is "Live" in the sence of bio active activity, but not fully live with the life forms that can keep the sand bed healthy. Micro snails, and some types of worms do not live on the riock, so they are not in the sand unless you placed them there. Get a sand beed kit for the life that lives in sand if you are worried, I stocked mine and got a lot of neat things that do not live on the live rock. But there is no need to panic, if its been this ling, then no reason to add seeded sand. because as stated already its alive by now. OK thanks for the info, I have another quesiton: Can I introduce more Live rock into my tank if so how much at a time. LS, you simply place where you want to place it with the help of a tube of some kind. LR is the same, just place where you think that is good or feel. Both LS / LR, if you want to be cautious, you may want to place in QT/HT for awhile to check if there any hitchhiker and or any die-off. While LS/LR in QT/HT, you may also want to test for any reading level before placing in your main tank. Some poeple just place it in immediately without checking. IMO, I do not recommend this way. You may never know what you get ..... until too late. CapFusion,... |
