Hello everyone,

I have recently noticed a fine red algae growing on the glass of my 1yr old
coral tank.  I beleive this started shortly after my last large 2.5" snail
(still have several smaller snails) got sucked into the impeller of the
powerhead (not positive).  Is this an algae I want to get rid of or not?  If
a get another large snail or two, will they get rid of this or do I need to
do something else?  Everything else seems normal except for this strange new
algae (and no large snails).

" Is this an algae I want to get rid of or not?"

Yes, it is one of the cyanobacteria AKA, Blue-Green Algae. More than likely it is either
Lynnbya or Schizothrix

We've got exactly the same thing in our tank, this red algea has taken over
the sand at the bottom, it's like a plague!

It went, then it came back.

Time to kill again I think.
