I just aquired a large bunch of Halimeda, the first time I've ever
had it. I understand that it likes decent lighting, the only place I
have anything other than NO flourescent is my 75 display. I'm curious
about careing for this, and if my inhabitants will leave it be.

75gallon reef
20g sump w/ LR and caulerpa
seaclone100
6x65 50\50 10,000k\actinic

70lbs LR
ricordia mushrooms
small unknown gorgonian
regal tang
six-line wrasse
spotted mandarin
brittle star
emerald crab
assorted hermits and snails.

This fish will destroy your plant eating it as a snack.

Normal fluorescence lights should be enough...
And much better than stronger light but with nipping.

Thanks, moved to the sump. The hermits were having a rave on it.

It will live under normal lighting, but really grows fast with some 400 halides
;)

Agreed. Crabs and everything else seems to steer clear of it as well!

Seems to grow well even in parts of my tank in the shade.

I have left the fish name in the quotation: regal tang (hepatus tang).
I have this fish in my tank and it eats Halimeda like crazy.

I am not sure if we want calcareous algae growing like crazy in our tanks...
This could lead to calcium deficiencies if not watched precisely.

and Billy  "This could lead to calcium deficiencies if not watched precisely."., also keep
an eye on your alk. Hal's really use HCO3 as their carbon source and not CO2

I like it. As it dies off, it makes sand. It isn't sucking up much
calcium as far as I can tell.  Certainly my mangroves are more of a
problem using up all the magnesium!
