Just reading a thread on UV output im now wondering if i should look
into some glass to go in my mh reflectors before i install them on my
new tank. Is the general consensus that single ended bulbs don't need
UV protection or does it depend on the bulb used (im usung a 20k 250k
SE German made bulb).

I'd like to hear opinions on whether glass should be used for UV
protection and for splash protection or not ..

Also what type of glass is recommended?

No UV protection is needed with any single ended (mogal or meduim base)
MH bulb.

For splash protection.  Well it will keep the bulbs cleaner but I have
never had a bulb fail from being splashed.

If you decided to go with glass, just normal plate glass is fine as long
as you have some fans to keep the heat down.
