Over the past couple of weeks, we have had two small (half inch across)
what looks like starfish appear int he tank. Each is similar in that
they are greenish white with three "proper" legs and three or four
"stumps". The are currently clinging to the glass on the side of the
tank.

The look soft with soft serrated edges.

Any ideas?

Those sound like Asterinas to me.

Yup...sounds like Asterina sp to me.  They intitaially appear harmless,
however many of the species of this genus will munch on your SPSs.  Get them
out now.  I tried a watch and wait approach, suddenly the population
exploded and that is when they started munching on my Acropora

I agree with everyone else, you want to get them out right away.  I let
mine go because I wasnt to worry about them, then they exploded.  Last
week in 2 nights I pulled out 152 (daughter kept count) of them and the
next day it didnt look like I pulled any. My tank is a 92 gal
softie,LPS, SPS.
I have not seen any damage to any SPS yet, but they did kill off most
of my pipe organ by camping over the end of the tube so the polyps
could not extend.
