Purple fish ID, please.

Hi

Can someone follow the link below and tell me what the purple fish 5
pics down is called? I'd be really grateful. There's one in our LFS
that I'd like to get but I want to learn about it first.

It's a Fridman's Dottyback.

Dottybacks are risky with cleaner shrimp. Here in the
store, I don't have any probmem because I introduce the
cleaner shrimp in the tank first, so that the dottybacks
are the new guys. If I want to introduce cleanershrimp in
a tak with a dottyback, I simply move the dottyback to
another tank. But that's not so easy in a reef tank. Also
as the dottybacks get bigger they become more agressive.

That is a psuedocromis. I have one myself. Mildly agressive, and
medium-warm in the teritorial dept. Best to introduce last in the tank.
They like meaty food, such as brine shrimp, nuapili, pods, etc. Adults
reach 3 to even 4 inches nose to tail. These fish are smart, and like
to watch the world outside the tank. They love anything alive to eat,
but will eat frozen food. I've seen mine harrash peppermint shrimp
before. The fish is a good pet and would be best kept in no less than
55g.

Ah! A bit big when fully grown and a bit aggressive for me, having
just given away a damsel for that reason. Many thanks for your help,
it certainly pays to do your research.

I have mine in a 75 gal. for about a year now, he doesn't bother anyone
else, even during feeding.. I think its because of his good up bringing. We
taught our psuedocromis some manners and he's made us proud ( I'm kidding).
I did read however, only one of them per-tank.. they have a tendency to
attack each other.
