What fixture would you recomend for a 3 foot long tank ? It is 58 gallon oceanic without center frame brace. It is "reef-ready" tank with center back wall overflow. Currently running with home-made 2 x 96W power compacts lamp. Was thinking to upgrade to some 3 x 96W pc or maybe some T5 ? Like to run 2 actinics and 1 white to have more blue in tank. Anything decent currently on the market worth checking out ? I am a cheapskaaate when it comes to paying what they want for lights. I prefer to make my own or at least the hood and buy a retro kit. If yur good at DIY and can make a suitable hood, adding in retro fit parts and yur old lights would be cheapest, and would fill that 3 x 96 watt criteria you mentioned, and probably still have room for a few tubes of T5... The goldfish and smallkoi tank at the local Deathco store here has a light over it that I would love to have. Its certainly overkill for a koi and goldfish tank. It has an aluminum extrusion housing, and is suspended on acrylic tubes from an overhead framework of polished aluminum.....tank itself is perhaps 36 x 36 x 30 inches and its all acrylic...The light has 8 T5 tubes as well as 2 175 MH lights in it, 4 fans and 6 moon lights and is anodized a bronze color. The problem with DIY projects is that I have too many of these open... I am terrible in terms of closing what I started working on :-) That is why I would recently rather buy a lamp which is ready to plug in. On reefcentral.com they recommend going with T5 made by Tek. Yes, it sounds like an overkill, but they want to present expensive koi good. snip The koi they sell do not inmprove under any kind of lights. TYo get the most ouyt of a koi they need to be viewed in a blue tub, from the top, and thats impossible to view a koi in that setup. I have a feeling its a saltwater setup / display that they decided to put their $3.99 domestic culls they sell as premium koi in since folks used to rasie heck with them being in a smaller setup. The price $439.00 is for the older model 1041, with one HQI and two power compact tubes... I was talking about T5 model 1071, with two HQI 150W and four 39W T5 tubes, this one is $679 at marinedepot.com and I did not see it on globeaqua.com |
