What is everyone using to cover their powerheads to prevent anemone accidents? I use sponges to cover my Hagen's, but they are a
pain. Anyone doing it another way?

I flipped mine upside down, so they suck from the top instead of the
bottom. My anemones have given up glass climbing for the moment, but I
was planning to use fiber or similar w/ rubber bands. I haven't found a
sponge that would work that well accept that some powerheads come with
extended uptakes to house the sponge. This might reduce suction enough
to avoid anemone death.
My ritteri finally found a perch with a lot of flow. I would never have
guessed that they would like that much current, but he's stayed put
within 48 hrs of adding new power heads.

I have these plastic basket things that they sell for ponds to prevent
debris clogging the flow too quickly

ugly as old people doing it.... but have them hidden a bit

That's not a bad idea either. Thanks.

I have a large LTA in a 20 gal tank for over 6 years. I hate to move it to a bigger tank because it's done so well in there over the
years. It's growing pretty close to the powerhead and sometimes knocks off the sponge. Maybe I'll try turning it upside down.
Thanks.

tell us about it!!
welcome to the strange side of usenet
after a while you will recognise the poster
and just ignore/killfile
somehow they are getting satisfaction from the weird posts
I'm glad they are finding some sort of meaning or something
but yes
very strange.
:)
I asked a mate about his anemones and he told me he's trying to work out
what barriers they won't cross.
'could' be as simple as a line of silicon mixed with something..... once he
works it out
but after listening to him ramble for over an hour.... I chewed thru my leg
and escaped.
If the anemone is getting closer to the current
perhaps extending the output away from the sucky input could help.
some people direct outputs all over the tank trying to eliminate deadspots,
and this could influence where the anemone wants to go hang.
lotta words for little suggestion
heh

It is a very different ummm.....experience posting here now

An easy answer is to just get rid of the powerheads.
I did that many years ago.

Good idea. I'll just stir the water around with a
big spoon every half hour. ;)
Wayne Sallee - 24 Feb 2007 04:22 GMT
And the best part about it is that it is good
exercise :-)
But seriously I use one large dependable external
pump to pump the water from the sump to the reef
tank, and that is the only pump I use.

That's a good idea, but this is only a 20gal tank with just the anemone in it.
Wayne Sallee - 25 Feb 2007 01:04 GMT
Yea a 20 gallon tank is a bit small for that :-)

I found that to be a bit tiring, so I bought a Tunze.

If you torture the data long enough, eventually it will confess
to anything.

LOL! Yep, I guess it would be a tad boring.
Since this is just a 20gal tank, I've been using a Hagen. I just ordered one of the following. I'll see how it goes.
If it's too powerful for my 20gal, I'll put it in one of my bigger tanks.

Looks neat. I like the mounting arrangement.
> If it's too powerful for my 20gal, I'll put it in one of my bigger tanks.
Well, I bought the smaller Tunze (IIRC, 1600 gph). I was worried that the larger
one would be too much flow for my 125. Now I wish I had opted for the larger
one. I may pick up one of these units an put it down at the opposite end of the
tank from the Tunze.

Your having a bad time of it target. You tell tooo many lies and cannot
keep up with them. The multitude of lies bites you every time you turn
around. Trust me on this, its proven that the truth is so much more
easier to keep up with than lies are..
Might I suggest "you" give it a try, you may just like it.
Oh, do you claim those socks as dependants on you income tax?
